Our Story

Strand Steel and Roofing was started in 2003 to service a need in the disadvantaged communities for affordable roof sheeting.

Many customers complained that they were unable to source thin gauge material at competitive prices. A process was started whereby second hand roof sheeting was sourced and made available for purchasing.

Soon the demand outstripped the supply and an alternative source was sought and found, namely, thin gauge new sheeting bought in in long lengths and then cut to size as per the customers’ requirements.

The material bought in was of the galvanized type and was in two profiles – IBR and corrugated.

The company invested in 2 x manual hand operated guillotines which would allow cutting to length of long profiled sheets which were delivered to the company’s premises in 15.0m lengths; this allowed us a “cut-to-length” facility and we were able to supply the required lengths of customers. Because of the different thicknesses of the different materials, a large storage area was needed to stack the different thickness materials.
This was an extremely labor-intensive operation which required many hands and increased the cost of each sale.
In 2008, a decision was made to invest in Roll forming machines, one for an IBR Profile and 1 for corrugated -.
The IBR roll former was able to roll form material in different thicknesses from 0.25mm to 0.5mm.
The corrugated machine however was able only to profile only the 0.25mm thin gauge material and in width of 762mm, with the profile not to ISO 9000 standards.

The footprint of Strand Steel has grown to allow for a branch in Strand area which is serviced on a daily basis with stock from the warehouse in Blackheath.

4.Boards – shutter-ply in 1.2m x 2.4m sizes

6.PVC Items such as Gutters , Facias and all the appropriate accessories
7.Waterproofing items – membranes , Bitumen
8.Fasteners – Nails, Coach screws etc
9.Roof insulation ; Isotherm , Envirotuff
10.Delivery service is offered at very reasonable rates for lengths up to 13.5m roof sheets
